Holiday to Alice Springs then to ULURU

Flying over our red centre was wonderful....I always get a great feeling when I see this red earth.

Alice Springs has every sort of Shop you could name

coffee before we hit the road

Alice Springs viewed from Anzac Hill

the alice and the therese

Jesse Gaps east of Alice

the rock paintings were truely amazing
Ochre pits

Ghost Gum Trephina Gorge-East MacDonnell Ranges

The camper was great...ran like a dream
doing card tricks with rock wallabies...they were very impresed at my slight of hand

Glen Helen Gorge-West MacDonell Ranges

beautiful country
breakfast...it would be real easy to photograph a cook book with GREAT backdrops

Ellery Creek Bighole- West MacDonnell Ranges

Ellery Creek Bighole-West MacDonnell Ranges

rockmelons in the desert...pure luxury

red dirt...salt lake
I like a decent hamburger when I make one

Mt Ebenezer Camping Ground

Some of the camp sites were shall we say........."basic"....sort of more primative than the desert outside the fence
we stayed here one night.....Therese ran around the yard eating her dinner...she had seven ka-jillion little bush flies on her heals
WHAT!!!....aits been so long since I had a bit of stubble...ITS NOW GREY!!!.must be the water???

DingO on the Lasseter Highway

This little guy was running along the road for awhile...its a $55,000 fine to feed them.We also saw 2 dingoes and a dog running along outside the 1.5 meter fence at the ULURU RESORT camp ground...the wild is very present in this country....We never saw 1 Kangeroo in the wild...camels ,horses, lots of cattle....and the odd trillion fly.
I have wanted to go out here for years,,,it TRUELY is an AMAZING place to be.We were really on the money with our planning of food etc and the whole thing went like a BREEZE....except we never had any of the "Oh it gets real cold at night in the desert" stuff. The flies can be a bit tough in some places but its not too big a deal....When we ate meat we ate that first OR we sat in the van a couple of times in the worst places...
having a wee rest in the afternoon

ULURU - more images click on archive

Here we are at the ROCK it looks soooo small in these photos....Its 350 meters high and 9 Ks around the base....
its a really great thing to see.... a must
We dedided that as we may never go back there because there iare so many other places to see in OZ and further afield...we would do a HELICOPTER flight..

Yulara Resort

thye resort is amazing...ther is everything there and MOST of what is there is what I wanted to get away from !!!...doof doof computer doctored trance music...big screen footbal tv groaning in the background...litter...it was VERY BUSY...many many German tourists go to NT which is interesting.
...then on to ULURU
I had not been in a helicopter before...where do I get one ???
eyes widen as we get closer
the parking lot looking at the ridge that people climb.
It really is hard to judge the 350 metres from the ground...that ridge on the lower right is wher people climb the rock...the local people prefer that people didnt climb their sacred site...we didnt. It does feel sacred to me to be there.
heading out to the OLGAS from the ULURU
it really is the way to see just how awesome these features are in this semi arid landscape...they REALLY DO BLOW YOU OUT when you see them....just their size..you can tell that on a photograph.
CLICK on these pics and see if you can see the CAMELS....if you can't its because they are wearing CAMELFLAUGE...( I stole that line off the pilot)

Kata Tjuta (The Olgas)

...named after some woman a german guy was trying to impress to get some explorer type funding...yep he git the $$$$s....naming an icon after your patron sure does work.

Totally Recommend the 30 min Scenic flight

The helicopter flight was FANTASTIC !!!

Curtin Springs-wonderful history

This is Therese's lunch and....
this is my lunch
its great to see plant and animals that are new to me....there is a fair amount of traffic in the middle of the day.We travelled the most in the moddle of the day...it beats the flies and the heat in the air con.Its not possible to sleep in the camper in the day UNLESS to can get some shade...and how many trees do you see in this image?
stretches are very helpful when driving....and I suggest you stop to do them
this calf got hit by a vehicle....everything gets eaten by the other critters...just skin and bone left
the sunrises and sunsets were just stunning
the BBQs in the NT are great...they are gas...so you can cook and boil a billy
